Standards for Teaching, Education and Learning

A large part of a teacher’s job is to prepare presentation material, create exercises and evaluation material, and plan learning sequences. Over the past few years, many software tools have supported this task. However, contents are in a specific format, preventing data from being transferred from one application to another, and often requiring a new start.

La Vitrine Technologie-Éducation plays a major role in the development and adoption of standards in the field of training, education and learning, through its work at the Standards Council of Canada and the joint technical committee of ISO/IEC SC36.

The ability to exchange data in a common format is called interoperability, which is made possible by adhering to a common set of standards and specifications. Some standards are sometimes adapted locally to better meet the requirements of users; these are referred to as application profiles. The description of data is done through metadata.
