Danteworlds

Danteworlds is an integrated multimedia journey--combining artistic images, textual commentary, and audio recordings --through the three realms of the afterlife (Inferno, Purgatory, Paradise) presented in Dante's Divine Comedy. The site is structured around a visual representation of Dante's worlds: it shows who and what appear where. Click on regions within each realm to open new pages featuring people and creatures whom the character Dante meets during his journey. Click on individual figures in the regions to view larger images in pop-up windows. Available for each region are explanatory notes, a gallery of artistic images, recordings of significant Italian verses, and study questions--all aimed at enriching the experience of reading Dante's poetic vision of a voyage literally out of this world. Danteworlds is conceived as a complement to--not replacement of--the experience of reading and discussing Dante's Divine Comedy. It is therefore recommended that students first read the cantos describing a particular region (click here for links to the text in electronic form) and then visit that region in Danteworlds.

Foreign Language Teacher's Toolbox

Designed as a resource for foreign language teachers, this toolbox offers games, art and music projects, and evaluation tools that may be used in any foreign language classroom, from grade school through college. The activities offer hands-on experience and encourage assimilation and creativity in the target language while reinforcing vocabulary and grammatical structures and focusing on oral expression. Unlike most foreign language sites, the toolbox is not language specific, and is intended primarily for teachers who seek to provide students with enrichment activities yet do not have the inclination to create them. The toolbox furnishes all the essential ingredients for an activity, from pedagogical objectives to all details necessary for its successful execution. Users need only adapt those ingredients to their particular language and to the level of their students. The same approach guides the practice and evaluation tools which are provided-- teachers who are new to technology or have no time to invest in it may easily adapt the tools to their needs and use them to benefit their students.
