This online art lesson draws from the proficiency of acclaimed wildlife artist Carl Rungius to demonstrate the concepts and principles involved in creating a visual composition. There are three main components of this program. The Art Principles Animated brings the artwork of Carl Rungius to life by representing the art principles in dramatic graphics and innovative sound effects. In the Composition Studio, students learn to effectively use each principle while developing a composition of their own as they follow a step-by-step tutorial. Artefact is an editing software that allows teachers and students to create collections of digitized images (paintings, sculptures, architectural elements, industrial art and design objects, photos, drawings, artefacts, etc.) and to document their works, for example, by associating a text or audio commentary with the biography of the artist. It can serve to create formative exercises for the analysis of the images, to build up a database of terms and to create an audiovisual exhibition on a computer or the Web.
